Donald M. Tatreau

Tatreau, Donald M.
23 Jan 1923 - 26 Jun 2019

Donald M. Tatreau left us peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday 6/26/2019 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC at the age of 96. Don will be interred with military honors later at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Omaha, Nebraska.

He joined the Marine Bombing Squadron (VMB 433) on 11/23/1942 and was eventually assigned as part of the Bismarck Archipelago operation to consolidate the Northern Solomon Islands in the Philippine campaign during WWII. He flew 55 missions as a turret gunner in a PBJ (B-25H) Mitchell, received an air medal and two gold stars and was honorably discharged on 11/15/1945 as an E7 gunnery sergeant. He participated in the 500th Blue Ridge Honor Flight to Washington DC 9/24/2016 where he was recognized for his service in WWII.

Don started his working career at Brandeis taand Sons (large retail store) as a sales associate while attending high school at Omaha Tech. After high school, Don worked as a clerk at the Omaha National Bank (largest bank in Nebraska at the time). After WWII, he started at Orchard & Wilhelm (large home furnishing store) as the supervisor of wholesale sales. Don met his wife, D. Maxine Teninty while both were employed at Orchard & Wilhelm Company. In 1957, Don switched employers and began working for Western Electric; becoming Lucent Technologies, as a first line supervisor of the Financial-Credit Organization. Maxine started working there in 1969. In 1986 they both retired and enjoyed traveling around in their RV. Don completed his genealogy research back to the first Tatreau (Tetreau) who came to New France (Canada) in 1662, born in 1634 in France.

Don and Maxine were married 8/18/1949, in Omaha by the late Reverend Norman Temme who also retired in Hendersonville, NC with his wife, Marion. Maxine and Don moved to Middleton Place, Hendersonville, in October 1996. They have since relocated into the Lake Pointe Landing Retirement Village in Hendersonville on 9/24/2012.
