LaVonne Mae (Petersen) Heffernan Stamp was born on May 7, 1937 in Crawford County, Iowa to Richard and Caroline (Quandt) Petersen. She passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at her home, at the age of 76. She was baptized on July 1, 1937 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa.

She was educated in the rural school system of Charter Oak through the 6th grade. She attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Charter Oak for 2 years and was confirmed on April 19, 1951. She graduated from Charter Oak High School in 1955. LaVonne did a lot of babysitting and corn detasseling during her high school years.

LaVonne was united in marriage to Joe Heffernan in 1956 and they were blessed with 3 children – John, Jane and Mark. In 1972 she married Leroy Stamp and they resided in Elkhorn, Nebraska. They celebrated 41 years of marriage on April 8, 2013.

LaVonne worked at Boys Town for 7 years and after working for Western Electric for 23 years she retired in 1990. She enjoyed her retirement with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very active in Bible Study Fellowship at Westside Church for 7 years and belonged to the Cottonwood Quilters Guild. She made many beautiful quilts, which was her favorite pastime. She belonged to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Women’s Guild in Valley, Nebraska and made many special friends. She was presently a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Caroline Petersen, brother and sister-in-law Larry and Maureen Petersen and sister-in-law Rhoda Petersen. She is survived by her husband Leroy; children John and Linda Heffernan of Omaha, Jane and John Weber of Las Vegas, NV and Mark and Sheri Heffernan of Missouri Valley, IA; step children Greg and Diane Stamp of Hamilton, OH, Don and Audrey Stamp of Middletown, OH, Sharon and Dave McArdle of Omaha, Julie and Steve Miller of Des Moines, IA and Cheryl and Lynn Stohs of Marysville, KS; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law Lloyd and Lois Petersen of Apple Valley, MN and Linda Petersen of Soldier, IA, Lois Jean Harris of Blair, Nebraska. Nieces, nephews and many relatives and dear friends.

Visitation: Friday, August 16th, 2013, 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., Reichmuth Funeral Home - Elkhorn, 21901 W. Maple Rd., Elkhorn, NE.

Services: Saturday, August 17th, 2013, 10:00 A.M., Bethany Lutheran Church, 4200 N. 204th Street, Elkhorn, NE.

Interment: Pleasant View Cemetery, Leshara, NE.
