Harold Soukup

Harold Soukup, age 74 years of North Bend, NE passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011 at his home in North Bend. Harold was born May 18, 1936 in Lincoln, NE to Francis and Ruth (Cabel) Soukup. He grew up in North Bend, NE and graduated from North Bend High School in 1954. He attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont for one year. As a youth he worked at Paden Oil Station. He then worked for Western Electric installing Central Office Telephone Equipment at Beach, N.D. from 1956-1958. He lived in Omaha 1958-1960 where he was a route supervisor and assistant sales manager for Fairmont Foods. Next he worked for International Telephone & Telegraph, and Philco-Ford and then he returned to Western Electric. He lived in Fremont 1965-1995 before moving to North Bend.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in North Bend, North Bend Masonic Lodge #119, Sesostris Shrine Temple in Lincoln, NE and Fraternal Order of Eagles #200 in Fremont. He was an antique car collector and was a member of the 4 & 6 Cylinder Plymouth Club and served the group as Editor, Vice President and President. He started the Norfolk Antique Car Club and the Fremont Antique Car Club. He and his wife established Harold & Leona’s Toyland & Museum in North Bend.

Harold married Leona Karpisek December 31, 1954 at Yankton, S.D.

Survivors are: Wife Leona; Sons – Greg and wife Diane Soukup of Hooper, NE, Bruce and wife Kathy Soukup of Strang, NE and Ken and wife Heidi Soukup of Orlando, FL; Daughters – Debra Pedan of Portland, OR, Teri and husband Jim McCabe of Manson, IA and Sheri and husband George Gocken of North Bend, NE; 16 Grandchildren; and 4 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation: Friday, January 14, 2011 from 3-8 P.M. with family receiving friends 6-8 P.M. and a Masonic Service at 7:00 P.M. at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend, NE. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the hurch Saturday.

Service: 9:30 A.M., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the United Presbyterian Church in North Bend, NE. The Rev. Neal Allen will officiate.

Interment: Memorial Cemetery, Fremont.

Memorials: May be directed to the American Cancer Society, United Presbyterian Church in North Bend, or North Bend New Library Building Fund.
