Jay died at his home southeast of Yutan on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the age of 94 years, 2 months, and 27 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mildred, sister Edna Gori, brother-in-law Donald Rieckman, and nephew Richard Rieckman.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Yutan, daughters and sons-in-law Sherry & Theodore Frye of Yutan, Vickie Brammer of Wahoo, NE, and Karen & Douglas Zink of Grand Island, NE, son and daughter-in-law Robert & Shelley of Baraboo, WI, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sister Iola Rieckman of Waverly, NE, brother-in-law Dino Gori of Washington state, and nieces and nephews.

Jay married Marilyn Lawrence on May 17, 1946 at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha, and to this union, four children were born; Sherry, Vickie, Karen, and Robert.

After his duty in WWII, Jay worked for Anfra Carpentry, then went to work for Western Electric (AT&T) for 29 years, retiring in February 1985. Jay also farmed for several years.
