Bernard J. McGrath

McGrath, Bernard J.
22 Jun 1933 – 26 Jul 2015

Bernard J. McGrath died on Sunday, July 26 from prostate cancer. A graduate of Creighton Prep High School and Creighton University, he entered the Army in 1955 and was stationed in Korea. Bernie married Mary Ann Hart, October 18, 1958. Until his retirement in 1991, he worked as an accountant for Western Electric (AT&T).

Bernie enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events. He was an avid Creighton Bluejays and Nebraska Huskers sports fan who also enjoyed going to the College World Series and golfing.

He was a founding member of Mary Our Queen Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann (Hart); four daughters: Kathleen Wawers (Brett), Karen Grossnicklaus (Kelly), Mary Jo Bassett (Matt), and Colleen Walters (Layne); twelve grandchildren: Stephanie Cutler (Eric), Katie Hoehne (Jason), Julie Wawers, Maggie Bassett, Ryan Grossnicklaus, Abby Wawers, Ben Grossnicklaus, Jared Walters, Mickey Bassett, Luke Grossnicklaus, Derek Walters and Ellie Bassett; great-grandchild, Jonah Cutler; brother-in-law, Bill Hart (Diane).

Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 29th from 5 P.M. - 7 P.M at Mary Our Queen Catholic Church, with vigil service at 7 P.M. at the church.

Services: Thursday, July 30th at 10:30 A.M. at Mary Our Queen Church.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials: Memorials are suggested to Mary Our Queen Catholic Church, Skutt Catholic High School, or Holy Cross Grade School, in lieu of flowers.


Bernie was an accountant at the plant, he retired 3 May 1991.
