Charles 'Bud' Mathis

Charles “Bud” Mathis, 84 of Wahoo, NE, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo. Bud was born May 16, 1929 in Wahoo, NE to Charles and Edree (Palmer) Mathis. After graduating from Wahoo High School in 1946, Bud entered the U.S. Air Force. He served his country from 1946 to 1951 and he was a veteran of the Korean War. On May 19, 1977, Bud was united in marriage to Gerry Bordovsky. He worked for Western Electric for 35 years, until his retirement.

Bud was a proud veteran that was very involved in the community. He was a member of VFW Post #4502 and American Legion Post #82. He was a member of the firing squad, Quartermasters of the VFW, the Eagles Club #2971 where he was a past president, and St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Bud was always a supporter of all the athletic programs in Wahoo, especially baseball. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and playing cards with friends.

Bud is survived by wife of 36 years, Gerry Mathis; children, Penny Vega, Bill (Diane) Mathis, Paula (Bob) Grundy, Patrick (Julie) Mathis, Scott (Elizabeth) Mathis; step-children, Dave (Deb) Bordovsky, Donna (Don) Novotny, Diane (Rex) Kumpula, Doug (Linda) Bordovsky, Denise (Kenny) Chvatal, Deb (Rod) Ross, Darrell Bordovsky; 41 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren; sister, Peg Stevens; sisters-in-law, Helen Mathis and Evelyn Mathis. He was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Edree Mathis; brothers, James Mathis and Robert Mathis; sister, Inice Seaman; son-in-law, Rick Svara.

Pallbearers are Dallas Bordovsky, Nathan Novotny, Cory Kumpula, Tyler Svara, Chris Bordovsky, Dean Ballard, and Kevin Bordovsky. Honorary pallbearers are all Bud’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and fellow military members

Visitation: 5:00 - 7:00 P.M., December 17, with rosary at 7:00 P.M.

Services: 10:00 A.M., December 18, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Wahoo, NE.

Memorials: In care of the family for future designation.


Bud retired, 31 May 1991.
