Ted Hummel

Ted Hummel, age 78 of Sidney, IA died Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the Ambassador in Sidney following a brief illness. Ted was born September 20, 1937 in Sidney, IA to Samuel Foy Hummel and Daisy Bernice (Lewis) Hummel. On December 19, 1987, he was married to Jo Ann Hall MacDonald in Sidney, IA. Ted was a supervisor for Lucent Technologies for many years and a member of the Sidney Victory Life Church and the American Legion.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Thomas and Phillip Hummel. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Hummel of Sidney, IA; 5 daughters, Kimberly Murray and husband Bill of Groveport, OH, Brenda Benedict and husband Don of Sidney, Katrina Gude and husband Mark of Hamburg, IA, Theresa Bryant and husband Kenny, and Lisa Countryman and husband Dan all of Sidney; son, Mike MacDonald and wife Anna of Farragut, IA: 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; sister, Susan Hummel Ross of Omaha, NE; numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

Ted graduated from Sidney High School in 1955. Upon graduation he joined the Air Force where he served until 1959. Ted retired from Lucent Technologies in 1999 after 37 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.

Visitation: 5:00 P.M. Wednesday and the family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA.

Services:10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Sidney Victory Life Church with Pastor Craig Eberly officiating.

Interment: Sidney, IA Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the Williams-Jobe-Gibson American Legion Post #128 of Sidney. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: To the Sidney Victory Life Church or the Shepherd's Frock in Sidney.


Ted retired from Lucent in 1999, with 37 years of service.
