Richard M. "Dick" Cartwright, 77 years, of Arlington, NE died Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Fremont Area Medical Center in Fremont, NE. Dick was born February 4, 1937 in Omaha, NE to Martin and Cecilia (Schimonitz) Cartwright.

He grew up in Omaha, graduating from Holy Name High School in 1955 and then attended Creighton University in Omaha. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in California. Dick married Helene M. Palik on October 22, 1960 in Santa Rosa, CA. He returned to Omaha and lived there until moving to Arlington in 1971. Dick was employed at Western Electric in Omaha for 35 years, retiring in 1994. He then worked for Woodhouse in Blair, NE for the last 12 years.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont, the Knights of Columbus Council 1497, and Christians Encounter Christ. He was also a member of the IBEW Union, and belonged to a camping club and enjoyed square dancing.

Dick is survived by his wife, Helene; sons, Rick Cartwright of Fremont and David & wife, Marcy Cartwright of Arlington; daughters, Terri Cartwright of Windsor, CO, Patty & husband, Tim Mulhall of Fairfield, CT, Karen & husband, Dan Toebben of Blair, NE and Janet & husband, Tom Schumacher of Bennington, NE; brothers, John Schenkelberg and Dick & wife, Judy Schenkelberg all of Omaha; sister, Gretchen Moylan of Omaha; sister-in-law, Barbara Schenkelberg of Omaha; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 3 brothers, Bernard, Gilbert and Lambert Schenkelberg.

Visitation: Monday from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 6-8 P.M, and Tuesday at church 1hr prior to service.

Services: 10 A.M. Tuesday, March 11th at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. Father Jim Keiter will officiate. Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7 P.M. on Monday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, and is open to the public.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery in Fremont with military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20.

Memorials: To the Archbishop Bergan Schools or the Knights of Columbus Council 1497, in lieu of flowers.


Dick retired in 1994.
