Richard E. Barnes, age 80, of Grand Island, Nebraska, passed away February 29, 2012 at The Good Samaritan Village in Grand Island. He was born March 15, 1931 to Albertus and Vergene (Mathiasen) Barnes in Minden, Nebraska. Shortly after graduating from College View High School in 1949, Richard went to work at Western Electric in Omaha until retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; his 5 children; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; his stepchildren and their families; his brothers, Alvin Bernel Barnes, Byron Gene Barnes and wife Joan, and Gerald Mathiasen Barnes and wife Wanda.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm, Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street. Visitation will be Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm with family greeting friends from 1:00 pm until the service. Cake and Coffee following entombment in lower level of funeral home.
