Bill W. "Billy" Abel, 84 years, of Fremont, NE passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE

Billy was born January 14, 1930 in Steele City, NE to Alfred and Margaret (Bridwell) Abel. He grew up in Fremont, NE and graduated from Fremont High School in 1948. After graduation, he served in the Nebraska National Guard and then served in the U.S. Navy from Dec. 19, 1956 to Dec. 17, 1958. He married Elizabeth "Tippy" Johnson on June 15, 1959. They later divorced. He then married Bess Scott on January 5, 1975. Billy worked for Western Electric until his retirement. He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America, life member of the National Rifle Association and past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He loved to travel in his fifth wheel and camp at Branched Oak. He also loved doing yard work and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Billy is survived by his son, Scott Abel; and sister, Candy and husband Dave Cerny; and grandchild, Trey Abel all of Fremont, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bess; sister, Teddy; brother, Bob; son, Greg; and granddaughter, Kelsey.

Visitation: One hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Services: 10:00 A.M., December 3, 2014, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Greg Hall will officiate.

Interment: Memorial Cemetery, Fremont with military graveside services conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20.

Memorials: Directed to the family.


Bill was an electrician at the plant. He retired 31 Oct 1986.
